Deep Trawlers Killing Off ‘Rare Species’ – The Sunday Times

Research by the University of Glasgow found that trawlers that targeted fish in deep waters by bottom-trawling caused more environmental damage to the marine environment but earned less from the fish they caught.

Joanne Clarke, the lead author of A Scientific Basis for Regulating Deep-sea Fishing by Depth, said the percentage of a catch that is commercially valuable plummets as deep-water species increase. The research was published in Current Biology.
